And I have my dear old Mom to thank for winning. Thank heavens for nice friends like Julie who hosted this absolutely wonderful contest that paid homage to the sweetest Moms ever. And I won. I won a dozen doughnuts!!!
This afternoon I trooped to the mall to claim my prize. All the while I had my Mom in mind. I was going to share my precious loot with her, of course. The rest of treats were for my kids who just happened to invite their cousin over so they could play. At least their afternoon snack was covered.
Then as I was making my way to my Mom’s place to drop off her share of the prize she called to tell me that she wasn’t allowed to eat sweets. Potential diabetic. Ok, no problem. The doughnuts were going home with me. So that means that I’ll probably have to eat several and that means I will probably be gaining weight. And yes, I gain a pound after just one doughnut…absurd right. So if you have the same problem, please click here.
In any case, I still love those doughnuts and I absolutely love my Mom without whom those doughnuts would have probably gone to someone else. So please excuse me, I have to brew some coffee to go with a doughnut.

Just a snippet from the after dinner conversation I had with my husband last night.
Me : “Its s effing hot!! It feels like I’m melting.”
Husband : “Buti na lang malamig sa office.”
Me : “I don’t feel well na nga. I think I’m going to die tomorrow.”
Husband : (with a stupid grin) “Promise?”
Hubby reaches for my new iphone.
Husband : “I better start learning how to use this.”
Me : “F*#^%k you…I’m taking that with me to the grave. I need to play Plants versus Zombies in the great beyond.”
I have always believed the saying that the day you find a job that you love is the day you stop working. True…very true. In my case, if given the choice of careers I would most likely be a chef and a writer. So obviously, cooking and writing are my passions. And I have been fortunate to be tapped by some friends for writing jobs. I actually cannot wait!

Last weekend, I took the girls on a day trip to Tagaytay. The husband was unable to join us because he was at a seminar. Actually, it was because of this seminar that I decided on this trip. Faced with nothing to do on a Saturday and finding out that my sister was going up to spend the entire weekend at the ridge was enough reason to make the road trip. Besides, I didn’t want to miss out on the cool weather…especially now that summer seems to be fast approaching.

I wasn’t able to take a decent ruby-red picture this week due to the recent calamity that hit our country. Am actually still reeling from its after effects but am thankful that my entire family is safe. I had to go through the pictures stored in one of my micro sd to find an entry for today. This was taken during our trip to the zoo last summer. Lego had a special exhibit by the Kinder Zoo section and this octopus was my favorite.

Yesterday morning while having breakfast, my eldest kid engaged me in another round of small talk. In between mouthfulls of cereal she said, “Mama, when I grow up can I have your camera.” And I said, “I already gave you the old one.” I was referring to our first digital camera which is a 3mp point and shoot…fairly easy to handle. Then I said, “I also let you use the newer camera so you can have that na rin.” I was referring to the newer point and shoot with better specs.
Then she gave me a growl and said, “NO!! I want to have the big one, the one with the telescope!” Ok, she was now referring to my prized DSLR. She then follows up with a, “Kasi when I grow up I want to be a frotographer so I can take pictures of flowers, food, and sunsets.” I felt my chest swell with pride at what I was hearing….my 6 year old had inherited some of my “feeling frotographer” genes. But unlike me, she got bitten by the bug early.
I got bitten by the bug at around the same time I was preoccupied with finding the right acne treatment for my teenage skin. But my kid, she should be preoccupied with Barbie Dolls and Baby Alive accessories….not thoughts of telephoto lenses and catching the right moment to take that money shot.

So am I thinking of giving in to her whim….hmmmmm…..maybe but not now. Sure I’ll hand over the small p&s camera because I know she can handle it. Sure I’ll store her pictures and maybe open a photosharing account for her. But am I going to give her my prized DSLR….uhmmmm…what do you think.
If there is one thing about a blog event that will pique my interest is that if it involves my kids. Blame my being a mommah but my kids will always come first before anything else. So I was more than excited to sign up for the Active Fun event when the invite said that it was providing “free play time” for the kids. This was just perfect. So armed with the invite I casually mentioned it to my kids as we were driving home from school and I immediately got woots and cheers from them. Great, this was going to be my secret weapon to get them to behave for the rest of the week. True enough, whenever they would get a tad too noisy I would tell them that I wouldn’t take them to the event anymore and within 2 seconds I would get them to keep quiet.
When the day arrived they were extraordinarily behaved. I knew that this was a precursor to the whooping up they would be doing at Active Fun. Never mind, I thought, they earned every second of playtime. I knew it the moment they spotted the colorful sign as we ascended the escalator that it was going to a fun fun evening.

I admit, one of my dreams is to drive a machine that can go from zero to 150 kph in a few seconds. And what better car to use than a bright red Ferrari. Oh I can imagine how that would feel like. I read somewhere that the perfect stance in driving this baby is with hands at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock on the steering wheel. Keep perfectly still while at it and toggle those gears in fluid motion so the car won’t jerk. Ah, just thinking about it is making me drool. But knowing me, I’ll probably need some Ferrari parts sooner than I can say “Whoosh!” But hey, its safe to dream, right?
I was your typical little girl when I was, well, a little girl. I loved dolls, girly stuff, playing dress up, and I loved birthday parties. My birthday parties in particular.
.
Having the good fortune of being the first born daughter of a first born son plus having the additional honor of being the first grandchild, birthdays were a big thing for me. They still are, actually. And because I was such a birthday fanatic, my parents always made sure that mine were celebrated in the way that befitted my age.
.
My first birthday was every little girl’s dream…at least back in the 60’s, that is. My very first birthday party was held at my grandparent’s garden. Back then there were no magicians and hosts in costumes. Since I have no memory whatsoever of the occasion, I have to rely on pictures to attest to the fact that it was a wonderful celebration. Looking at my pics I recognized some of my friends and family because their baby faces bore similarities to their adult mugs. An aunt served as the party host and was game master of the event. Games then were hit-the-pot and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey which are rarely played today. But judging from the smiles on everyone’s faces it looked like they really had fun.
.
Of course, the much anticipated part of the party was the candle blowing ceremony and my parents made sure that they got a cake fit for their party princess…ME!! Of course, nothing beat Goldilocks birthday cake. Mine had a princess doll for an accent and pretty flowers as decoration. Of course, I was a baby then so I cannot vouch for my refusal to blow my cake..this is according to my Mother.
