Contrary to what you might think, I don’t go to the gym for lunch. What I meant about pumping iron was what I had for lunch.
.
I packed myself a healthy, iron rich dish of Ginisang Ampalaya or Sauteed Bitter Gourd. I know that this isn’t the tastiest of vegetables but as a true-blue Ilocana, I just looooooove it. Bitterness aside.
.
This dish is done the traditional way. Sauteed with garlic, onions, tomatoes, and pork. Then seasoned with patis (fish sauce) and pepper. Then as a final touch, I throw in a couple of eggs for extra oomph. Sometimes I even add some chicharon when I don’t feel that my arteries are at risk. With some steamed rice it is heavenly.

Looks yummy! I love ampalaya, too, although I haven’t tried using chicharon in it. I will do that one of these days. By the way, I gave you another award. Please visit my blog to accept it. Thanks.

You don’t babad the ampalaya in salt? I’m truer-than-blue Ilocana, but I don’t like very bitter ampalaya hehe. But yes, they say when it’s done the right way (I don’t know how), it won’t be so bitter daw, even without the salt trick…
