The first time I heard about wheat grass I immediately thought that it was another one of those health fads that seem to be so prevalent these days. I paid no attention to all those infomercials that suddenly populated my late night viewing. To me it was more irritating that informative.

Then some local shows started featuring those now familiar green blades. Still I felt that some folks were just capitalizing on the growing trend. Some local businessmen also started getting on the bandwagon and began opening nurseries devoted solely to growing wheat grass.

The word was that wheat grass is a good colon cleanser and is good for the heart. Honestly, I preferred to get a thailand colonic than drinking grass juice. I just couldn’t imagine doing it. Until one of my neighbors brought some wheat grass juice for our Christmas party. While we were preparing the buffet table, his wife was busily preparing what looked to me like pond water. Uggh!!! So I went up to her to ask her what the hell she was going to make us drink. Lo and behold…it was the famous wheat grass juice.

She then gave me a small cup of the vile looking liquid and urged me to taste it. So as not to offend her, I took it. I pursed my lips just so very little fluid would reach my tongue but when it did…YUMMY!! It wasn’t bad at all. Apparently she had mixed it with some pineapple juice which is perfectly acceptable. I really liked it. And so did the rest of the neighbors.

The following morning I noticed that my usual morning ritual came in a little earlier. I guess it was the colon cleansing at work. I decided to do some research and I wanted to try to do this myself. No harm, really. I found some seeds at a local plant shop and started planting.

I’ve already had my first harvest. I made my first wheat grass juice the other day. Tasted pretty good too. I’ve been trying to do the recommended 1 oz. a day and it isn’t so bad. I’ve got some more pots of wheat grass waiting in the wings. Wheat grass anyone?

I wonder if they serve this when you get a thailand detox.

hi,want to know if wheatgrass powder,capsules and tablet form have the same beneficial nutrients as to freshly aqueeze juice from the grass? are the grass hard to maintain can they live in low lights? want to try those on trays but i live on a very polluted area and low light at our patio,thanks awaiting for your reply

i’ve tasted the powdered form and it was a bit sweet but quite palatable compared to freshly squeezed wheat grass juice. however, i really don’t know if it packs the same amount of nutrients compared to the fresh kind. of course, the manufacturers will claim that it is just as nutritious. but i am of the belief that nothing beats fresh produce anytime.
as regards to cultivating it, its very easy. i use old shallow pots and they grow quite well under restricted conditions. i just make sure to water the plants thoroughly at 2x a day. i usually harvest the grass after 5 to 6 days.
