.
This is my first entry for The Love Month Meme of The Filipino Mom Blog.
.
Since I’ve already written my “how we met” story sometime last year (won a contest and webhosting for that, btw), I think I’ll share a different story. Let me share the story of how we got engaged….or better still….how I almost botched our engagement.
.
My boyfriend-now-husband and I had already been going out for a couple of years and we knew each other enough to make the jump…yep, that jump. However, I really had no expectations whatsoever, and neither did he. We were just happy being together. In my mind I didn’t need a contract to say that we were “it”. We were “it”.
.
Things happened rather unexpectedly. Blame it on a missing earring is what I always want to say. I lost a diamond earring. One of a pair. So there I was, left with one earring and I didn’t want to buy another diamond because, frankly, I didn’t have the money for it.
.
Instead, I decided that I was going to have the diamond reset and made into a ring. Nothing fancy because it was a small diamond anyway. When I got the ring I proudly wore it as a badge of my ingenuity. Nothing more. I wasn’t flaunting or taunting. That was not the message that my boyfriend got. Apparently.
.
He felt that I was announcing that I didn’t need a man to give me a diamond ring. He felt that I was telling the whole world that I had no plans of going any further. And he felt that he better act fast or else.
.
One evening as I was relishing the rest of the night away (I was in the coffee shop that I once owned) he dropped by unannounced to have dinner with me. I was still basking in the afterglow of my new purchase. My partner, who is a lover of all things fine, couldn’t stop praising my ring and my decision to have it made. So, after we had dinner my boyfriend bid his farewell. I wanted him to stay longer so I, being a brat then, threw a tantrum and bid him a nasty goodbye….with some nasty words which I will no longer mention. He gave me a dejected face and threw me a brown bag and left. I didn’t even bother to show him to the door and instead picked up the bag and promptly made a beeline for the garbage can.
.
I guess you can call it woman’s intuition because something told me to take a peek inside the bag before slamdunking it into the garbage. When I opened it I found a little red box. I literally froze and muttered a “Holy Shit!!!” I opened it to find this….
.
.
It took my breath away. Literally. I quickly ran out the door to find him waiting by his car. He had a sheepish smile that said, “I got you and I got you good.”
.
I asked him what it was for like I didn’t already know. He said, “Because I want to be with you forever and ever.” Then I asked why. He said, “Because you, of all people, deserve it.” Then I asked if he was intimidated by my own ring. The bastard said, “Nope. My ring is bigger!!” And I said…never mind.

OMG! Your husband is very witty ha! I also read the 0319 post and boy, I was giggling like a high school student because of the “I’d like to end this friendship” line! Very smart!
So, how did you know what he thought about you looking like an Amazona? Wala namang ball kicking na naganap ano? hehehe.

Same question as Wenchie’s . Haha. Pano nga kung naitapon? But then love works in wonderful ways. It couldn’t be thrown away just like that. And so it happened.

I still remember reading your “how we met story”.
What a great story behind the diamond ring. The brown bag was a humble camouflage. It’s a sweet moment worth reliving.
