I was your typical little girl when I was, well, a little girl. I loved dolls, girly stuff, playing dress up, and I loved birthday parties. My birthday parties in particular.
.
Having the good fortune of being the first born daughter of a first born son plus having the additional honor of being the first grandchild, birthdays were a big thing for me. They still are, actually. And because I was such a birthday fanatic, my parents always made sure that mine were celebrated in the way that befitted my age.
.
My first birthday was every little girl’s dream…at least back in the 60’s, that is. My very first birthday party was held at my grandparent’s garden. Back then there were no magicians and hosts in costumes. Since I have no memory whatsoever of the occasion, I have to rely on pictures to attest to the fact that it was a wonderful celebration. Looking at my pics I recognized some of my friends and family because their baby faces bore similarities to their adult mugs. An aunt served as the party host and was game master of the event. Games then were hit-the-pot and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey which are rarely played today. But judging from the smiles on everyone’s faces it looked like they really had fun.
.
Of course, the much anticipated part of the party was the candle blowing ceremony and my parents made sure that they got a cake fit for their party princess…ME!! Of course, nothing beat Goldilocks birthday cake. Mine had a princess doll for an accent and pretty flowers as decoration. Of course, I was a baby then so I cannot vouch for my refusal to blow my cake..this is according to my Mother.

But this wasn’t the end of my birthday parties. Just because I acted liked a little brat on my first birthday didn’t mean I couldn’t have any parties anymore. As a matter of fact, I think I had a party for almost all my birthdays. Yup, lucky me. Firstborn’s luck, if you ask me.

And in all my parties, my folks made sure that I had the best birthday cake they could afford. Without any doubt whatsoever, it was always Goldilocks for us. Whether it was a big celebration or a small one at home, a Goldilocks birthday cake was always there for the ceremony. I can categorically say that You’re the 1, Goldilocks because without you my birthdays wouldn’t have been as happy.
.
Now that I’m a Mother myself, I am still a fan of the little girl with the golden hair. And its no surprise that my kids are fans too.

I am a first born, too, and first apo on my father’s side. Yeah, I celebrated my birthday every year of my life, till now. My cakes were made by my mom, however. There was no Goldilocks in Iligan City then. But my mom’s cakes were the best! =)
