Around 2 weeks ago, my Mom’s house was a warzone. It all started one morning when one of her helpers complained of diarrhea. After a few hours, 2 other helpers came down with the same symptoms. Then my sister called and said that her husband and 2 other members of her household were complaining of the same symptoms. They happened to visit my Mom the day before so it really looked like a virus was quickly spreading. At that time, I was at my Mom’s with Gaby waiting for Adi’s class to end. Since the word “virus” really freaks me out, I gathered my things and my kid and quickly left for fear of catching anything in the obviously sick air.

There were 2 theories that went around…it was either a viral form of diarrhea or it could be food poisoning. Despite the fact that my Mom uses almost forms of safety when it comes to anything that is digested, including having these water filtering gizmos that look like lab equipment (not like those HAVC filters I’ve been wanting to have), food poisoning was still a possibility.

The bug was so bad that 2 of my mom’s helpers had to be brought to the ER at around midnight because they were getting so weak. It was after some tests were done that it was concluded that it was a bad case of food poisoning. A bit of sleuthing exposed that my sister’s MIL had sent a batch of baked macaroni to my mom and it wasn’t eaten right away. The helpers helped themselves before throwing it away. Apparently, the same was true at my sister’s house. So it was the darn macaroni that did it.

Lesson learned….baked mac should be eaten asap…and why shouldn’t you.
