I’m having a proud Mama moment here!! Why shouldn’t I be…my little “sungit” baby has just been accelerated.
.
When we enrolled Adi last year we weren’t really expecting her to be serious in her schoolwork. After all she was only 2 years and 3 months when she started. She was placed in the pre-nursery class which was really more of a play class. Still, there were lessons in letters, numbers, shapes, colors and basic sequencing that were taught. The only difference was that there was not much pressure because of the children’s age.
.
We were completely aware that Adi would be repeating pre-nursery this year because of her age, again. She’s only 3 years old and the Nursery class is for kids between 4 and 4 1/2 years old.
So imagine our surprise when the head mistress of the school called 3 weeks ago asking if I could bring Adi to school for some assessment for acceleration. I didn’t even have time to tell my husband, I just whisked Adi off to the school immediately.
.
When we got there the head mistress told me that based on Adi’s performance last school year they felt that she could be moved up one level already. They just needed to do some further tests to make sure. According to her last teacher, Adi was the most mature in her class despite being the youngest. That sounded really nice and I could feel my chest swelling with pride over my little girls performance.
.
After a few minutes Adi was led into one of the rooms for her assessment. I couldn’t hear what the teacher was asking…but I would hear clapping and faint “Very good, Adi!” every so often.
.
When they were done the teacher told me that they would call me after discussing Adi’s results with the head mistress.
.
When 2 weeks passed and no call came, I assumed that Adi didn’t make the cut. I didn’t feel that it was a disappointment at all. I figured, maybe they saw something in Adi’s behaviour that didn’t seem appropriate for her to be placed in Nursery.
.
So, when I went to the school last Friday to drop off some requirements and to pick up the final school schedule I didn’t go expecting anything.
.
And when I opened each child’s class sked I saw that Adi’s name was on the Nursery class roster!! My kid was accelerated!! Woohoo!!
.
You can’t imagine how proud I am of my little girl.

I can imagine your pride. I was like that once but though my Lauren was smart, she felt inferior to the older kids. She wasn’t emotionally ready and didn’t fare well. I transferred her to another preschool. Hope Adi enjoys the move!

Hi Noemi!! Actually, I asked the teacher if she really felt that Adi was emotionally ready to make the move. Academically, wala naman daw problema…it was her emotional well-being that they tested. I don’t know how but apparently they felt she was ripe enough to make the move.

Hi SexyMom!! Its true..there are so many levels that kids nowadays have to go through before getting to Grade 1. Eh di ba noon kung maabot na ng kamay ang kabilang tenga, pwede ng pumasok ng elementary

Hi Cookie, congrats to you and Adi. Galing naman. Tell her treat ko sya ng ice cream or pizza next time mag meet tayo. I know how you felt, proud mama. Three of my kids were all accelerated one level up. Both Gabbie and Pio started grade 1 at 5 yrs. old. O di ba, nakatipid tuloy ako pang tuition, he he he..
