I celebrated my 40th birthday last weekend on the day of the big storm. We woke up with no electricity. The wind was blowing fiercely and the rain was pounding hard on our roof.
.
By mid-morning our power was restored and the storm seemed to have abated..just a bit. My husband took this as a cue to make a quick dash to a nearby bakeshop to pick up a cake and some noodles for lunch. It would be a simple meal of noodles, fried chicken, and a chocolate mousse cake. For me it was a perfect way to celebrate my big day…eating with my most treasured possession…my family.

By evening the storm had moved north and we were able to get out of the house and have dinner at an Italian restaurant. The staff treated me to a special birthday ice cream dessert and even sang for me. My kids ended up eating up but still it was the perfect way to cap the night of my big day.
