Everyone but everyone must have probably heard of the China Milk Scare. To date, 50,000 plus children have been affected by ingesting milk tainted with Melamine. As a result, there has been a rapid recall of products worldwide that may possibly contain milk sourced from China.
.
I’m not really a big fan of those inexpensive Chinese food products. I still go for my tried and tested brands. However, even the more popular food brands have somehow been embroiled in this food scare. Apparently, the companies that manufacture these products have also been getting their milk supply from China.
.
Here’s a list of those products that were recalled :
.

  • Klim Instant Full Cream Milk Powder
  • Nestle Carnation Calcium Plus Non-Fat Milk Powder
  • Nespray
  • Nestle Dairy Farm Pure Milk
  • Mengniu Pure Milk
  • Monmilk Breakfast Milk Walnut Milk Beverage
  • Monmilk Suan Suan Ru Sour Milk Beverage (Mango Flavor)
  • Monmilk Milk Deluxe Pure Milk
  • Yili High Calcium Low Fat Mlk Beverage
  • Dutch Lady Pure Milk
  • Vita Fresh Milk
  • Nestle Vanilla Flavor Ice Cream Cone
  • Nestle Chocolate Flavor Ice Cream Cone
  • Meiji Ujikintoki (red bean and green tea frozen confection)
  • Meiji Hokaido Azuki (red bean ice cream)
  • Trappist Dairy Low Fat Yogurt Drink
  • Strawberry Sorbet
  • Natural Choice Milk Ice Bar
  • Papaya Milk Drink
  • Assam Milk Tea
  • Carbonize Coffee

.
When I saw this list I heaved a sigh of relief because none of those products were ever on my grocery list.  Well, except maybe for those ice cream cones which I don’t recall eating very recently anyway.  But then another list popped up and this got me a bit distressed.
.

  • M&M’s
  • Snickers
  • Mentos Yoghurt Bottle
  • Dove Chocolate
  • Oreo Wafer Sticks
  • Dutch Lady Sterilised Milk
  • Wall’s All Natural Mango
  • Mini Poppers Ice Cream
  • Magnum Ice Cream
  • Moo Sandwich Ice Cream
  • Mini Cornetto
  • Youcan Ice Cream

.
Oh no!!  My favorite M&M’s are on the list.  I love Snickers too but I can manage to stay away from them.  But M&M’s…I can’t!!  In fact, I always have a stash in the fridge at any point in time.
.
With a bit of hesitation I had to throw away 3 packs of Peanut Butter M&M’s this morning and half a pack of M&M’s with peanuts. Its like going on a diet only this time there’s no sneaking away at night to indulge in some cheating because there’s nothing to eat. This milk scare is definitely going to help me lose some weight. Its like popping some of the best weight loss pills without having much of a choice.
.
As long as they don’t ban Twix, Toblerone, Reese’s, and Lindt, I’ll live.

I was looking for the Reese’s in the list buti na lang WALA :D

We don’t buy products made in China especially candies, biscuits, canned good and other products, we patronize locally made products.

Hi there. I am a regular reader of your blog pero ngayong lang ako nagka guts mag comment. May I ask for any link on the news about M&Ms? I’m sort of paranoid. Apparently, they haven’t pulled out M&M’s from the shelves in Hamburg and Dubai Duty free yet and it bothers me since I just bought the entire collection of M&M with the train toys (6 small vertical boxes) as pasalubong for my two girls. There will definitely be tantrums once they wake up tomorrow am and find all 6 boxes missing.

Hi Julie!! Same here..I’ve always been a bit wary of food stuff from China. Chinese food, though, is an exception. Pero yung mga cookies, milk, chocolates, and condiments hindi ko talaga binibili.

Buti na lang di kasali ang Reese’s noh :D

Hi Kathycot!! The last batch of M&M’s I ate was last week. Tinapon ko na yung iba. Buhay pa naman ako so I guess di ako tinamaan ng Melamine. Ikaw din siguro..buhay ka pa eh..hehehe :D

Hi Cess!! Nakaka-paranoid talaga. I was in 168 nga last Friday and I refused to eat in the Chinese food stalls kasi natatakot ako. I just ate at good old Jollibee para sigurado.

Medyo galit-galit muna kami ng chocolates for now. Buti na rin yun. Fruits na lang muna ang aking panghimagas :D

I believed these products were pulled out from the market for melamine testing purposes. None of them were proven yet to contain any amount. But as it’s oftentimes said, it’s always better to err on the safe side.
