Whenever Christmas rolls in, tis the season for food. Glorious, heart stopping, gut filling, rich food. And one of the parties I most look forward to is the one thrown by my Mother-in-law. About a week before Christmas, my husband’s family holds a big Christmas party. It’s not only for the family but for her employees as well. Employees? Yup, she runs a very successful catering business. She’s a fantastic cook and her catering business is run like a well oiled machine.
.
This business started pretty late in life for her. When all her kids finished high school it was a cue for her to go out on her own since they were all pretty much set in life. It started small. A few orders here and there. Until word got around that there was this fantastic home cook who was delivering food orders to a few select customers.
.
Before she knew it, she needed to get her hands on some restaurant supplies and equipment for her catering jobs. She couldn’t keep on serving her food on borrowed equipment so she invested in some of her very own. Starting with chafers, china, cutlery, etc. She built up her collection in a few years and eventually started renting out those same equipment to other caterers who didn’t have their own.
.
Nowadays, she has already delegated some of her tasks to one her sons (my husband’s younger brother). She still keeps an eye on some kitchen equipment discounts so she can replenish her stocks.
.
On my own, I’ve been collecting my own equipment. You’ll never know, maybe I can start my own catering business someday.
