Why We Won’t Be Travelling This Year
You read it right, we have no travel plans this year…none. Despite all the holiday travel deals that had me itching to buy tickets for almost every declared holiday…travel plans are officially and definitely on hold.
Yes, I’m quietly sobbing inside. I had every intention of seeing the temples at Siam Reap. I wanted to go to Malacca to have a feel of what it was like during the era of the spice trade. I was even checking out deals to Machu Picchu and had every intention of riding a llama bareback as I trudged the beaten path towards the bastion of Inca civilization. And who can forget our botched summer trip to Kyoto last year in time for the Sakura festival (which was cancelled because of the earthquake).
But all that is for good reason. All time, energy, and funds will be going to the House Project. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we will be building our dream house this year. Its on hold at the moment, thanks most in part to the snail pace of our building officials at City Hall. However, with a little praying and a teeny-weeny bit of cajoling from some of our “friends”, we may be able to get our permits sooner than later.
So, my suitcases are stashed….for the meantime.
Attic or Basement
As I mentioned in a previous post, we are in the process of designing what should be our “dream home.”
Since we were fortunate enough to acquire a lot that is bigger than the one we are occupying at the moment, this means we will have more space. And more space is what everyone wants…especially me.
And if there’s one thing I want, its storage space. Lots of it. My husband too. We both agree that there should be as many cabinets as possible. We need to keep everything out of the way. Toys, books, old clothes, hardware, custom baby blankets, toi.let paper…everything. Out of the way.
So the question is…since we have more area for building, do we build and attic or a basement?
Full Days Ahead
In 2 more weeks my kids are going back to school. This time around, things will be different. It will be the first year that I will have almost the entire day to myself. This will be the first year that BOTH kids go to school for an entire day. My problem, what to do.
I’ve pretty much been able to manage my time with only half a day all to myself. What with at least one kid being done with school before lunch. But since now they both get out of school in the afternoon, that leaves me with so much time on my hands.
First thing, I enrolled at the gym again. I signed up for personal training sessions to better tune my workouts. I plan to do this right after I drop them off. I’m still deliberating on whether I should do yoga again…that can come later.
Then I also plan to take some courses. I still can’t think of what to take at the moment but that definitely is in the works. I also am thinking of taking some courses offered at an online university which will mean I can do this in the comforts of my home.
Eventually I also want to start another business. When the kids are able to really fend for themselves then that would be the right time. Besides, that’s what the hubby and I agreed on. At the moment, the kids still take center stage and until then they still have my undivided attention…except when I’m on my “me-time”.
Revamping the Home Office
I did some cleaning recently…summer cleaning.
It all started because my mother almost threw out an all important company document that was sent to her house and she thought that it was junk mail. Its a good thing that she had a brief moment of doubt and decided to check out the doc. Lo and behold, it contained a check for the company…a pretty hefty sum at that.
Apparently, one of her helpers decided to “declutter” the shelf where all the mail was sitting and moved everything to my Mom’s library along with some of my business office supplies. There it languished until my Mother decided to do some of her own cleaning. And this was when it was discovered. This prompted my Mother to do some clearing and cleaning.
As long as nothing important gets thrown out by mistake…something my mother can sometimes be guilty of….I’m all for it.
The Return of Madame Reklamadora
Its been awhile since I’ve bombarded a call center with my rants. There hasn’t been a reason to complain in the last few
months simply because all the services we have been paying for were being delivered quite well. Until a few days ago when both our cable service and broadband went out at the same time.
It happened at around 8 P.M. while I was watching one of my fave cooking shows. Immediately I called Sky Cable’s hotline and informed them about the disruption. Upon checking they declared that it was an isolated case and that they would send a crew over to have it checked anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. But they also told me that in case the problem was central, they would restore our service right away.
